Navigating the Publishing Landscape: Evaluating Journal Metrics and Identifying Trusted Publishers Online
In today’s rapidly changing academic landscape, researchers face challenges navigating publishing and meeting funder requirements about public access to research. This series of four workshops offers UConn and UConn Health researchers up-to-date and in-depth information and resources for figuring out where and how to publish their work.
These workshops are suitable for researchers at all career stages who want to take proactive steps to learn about recent trends and challenges in scholarly publishing.
Workshop 1: Author Agreements and Creative Commons Licenses – November 17
- Negotiate terms of publishing
- Use author addenda to protect an author's rights to their work
- Select appropriate Creative Common licenses
Workshop 2: Article Processing Charges and Open Access – November 18
- Define open access publishing models
- Find support for Article Processing Charges (APCs)
- Meet funder requirements for public access to research
Workshop 3: Evaluating Journal Metrics and Identifying Trusted Publishers – November 19
- Identify and avoid deceptive journals
- Evaluate journal metrics
Workshop 4: Discipline-Specific Publishing – November 20
- Navigate discipline-specific publishing challenges
- Work with a subject-specialist librarian to support the publishing process
These workshops will include subject specialist librarians from the sciences, health sciences, and social sciences & humanities:
